Top 10 things to do in Orange County

restaurant enjoy

You’re probably thinking that you’ve already done it all in Orange County, gliding along from top to bottom of the pier in Huntington Beach without drawing the attention of the police, checked out the King of the Surf Guitar Dick Dale still ripping it up at 78, celebrated the Angels winning the World Series, and nodding away with celebs like Lil Wayne inside the Honda Center at Powerhouse.

An impressive spread to be sure but we’re afraid that it’s not good enough for your claim to fame about having done all that can be in Orange County. For a start (dipping your toes in) you can check out our below list of the top 10 things to check out.

1. Take a trip to the Shire – The Hobbit

Between all the adventures and saving middle-earth Bilbo Baggins’ fine dining restaurant has been pulling crowds from as far back as 1972. Why you ask? They really try to give you a unique Hobbit experience. Set in the tiny house, the entire meal is presented in three parts, three progressive acts that begin with you enjoying some fine champagne and hors d’ouerves while picking out your choice among the 1000 fine wine choices in the cellar.

Next up you’ll move upstairs to your proper table to enjoy a light meal and salad before taking a short intermission to take in the ambiance of the setting or talk to the chefs, it’s your choice. The third act of the evening finishes with you enjoying the specialty entrees, drinks, and dessert at your table. The seven-course affair is worth every penny.

2. Use the Force at Star Wars Land

Now this one we are 1000% sure you’ve never done it, probably never even heard of it. How can we be so sure? Development will begin in 2017 and  the wait for it has been a long time coming especially if you’re a Star Wars fan.

Disneyland plans to give you the keys to the Millennium Falcon for your own secret mission, something that would make Han Solo and Chewie green with envy.

3. Lounge Around on a Duffy Boat

Two hundred bucks lets you enjoy the afternoon or evening with your friends, you can even work around the price by keeping an eye out for LivingSocial/Groupon discounts that can knock as much as half off.

After claiming your trusty vessel you can load it up with all of the things you need to make the time enjoyable, be it a cooler full of drinks or a pile of everyone’s favorite snacks. After that you’re free gaze at the pricey waterfront homes of Newport Harbor and Balboa Island, one highlight being the former pad of the legendary John Wayne.

4. Newport Dunes Nighttime Paddleboarding

The perfect followup to tooling around on the Duffy boat. Swing by the Crab Cooker if you fancy seafood or hit up the Mint Leaf for some zesty and flavorful Thai food.

If that sounds like a bit much after pigging out on snacks then you can easily grab something light at one of the other restaurants. Next up take in the beautiful sunset from aboard a paddleboard fitted with lights on the bottom. Two views for the price of one, we’ll take that any day.

5. Strike a Pose at the Christmas Tree on Fashion Island

You’ll have to try a few times for the perfect shot because it’ll be hard to get all of the tree frame but that’s to be expected. This 90 foot tree monster takes two weeks to decorate and it’s larger than life presence captures that Orange County feel.

6. Indulge in the Massive Spread at the Orange International Street Fair

There’s a lot to take in and around OC that will delight your eyes but you’ve gotta be good to your stomach too. Give it an experience it won’t soon forget during Labor Day weekend with all of the street cuisine at the Orange International Street Fair.

Your taste buds will delight in sampling the treats from all over the world from Aussie to German and more.

7. Go Bottoms Up at Old World’s Oktoberfest

After all of that food you will be thirsty and what better way to wash it down with some great quality beer and what better way than during the Oktorberfest celebration.

All throughout Cali this is one of the largest in size and the duration, going deep into November after starting in September. Besides the beer you’re free to munch on sausages and schnitzels while you “Prost!” away.

8. Cheer on a Freeway Series Game

What beats going to a Dodgers or Angels game? Going to both at the same time! This is a must see whenever it occurs, just for the sake of feeling the energy of the rivalry between these two home squads.

You will gain the ultimate in bragging rights if you can do it during a World Series matchup, we’re still waiting patiently for it.

9. Go Back to the Medieval Times

No matter what the occasion, you can celebrate it with eating while cheering on your chosen knight. It’ll be a night packed with action and horses that you won’t forget.

10. Go to the Bottom and the Top

If you want to escape the feeling of the suburbian OC then lace up your hiking boots and pay a visit to Old Saddleback, the landmark nestled between Santiago and Modjeska peaks. After enjoying the amazing view at the top, retrace your steps and give the Sinks a try. The Sinks will be a stark contrast to the heights you’ve just witnessed.

There you have it, until you’ve checked off all of the above and even more, there’s still more to do in Orange County.

And of course if you’re thinking after all of this fun that  in need of an Orange County moving company because a trip to visit just isn’t enough; then we’re here for you!
